Over a month ago, the average person had heard passing news stories about the Coronavirus, or COVID-19. You knew it was there- it kinda annoyed you, but it wasn’t affecting you in a way that made you feel differently or rethink how to live your life. And then, (to put it mildly) shit blew up big time.
Over the course of March/April 2020, the US saw an influx in cases of those who affected by the Coronavirus. In an effort to maintain control, the government shut down all non essential businesses in an attempt to flatten the curve.
As a bride, your general fears of how to go about with your daily life is now plagued with the additional fear over whether you need to reschedule your wedding!
When will it end? Do I postpone? If I don’t, will people still come? Will my vendors still be available? Will my venue be flexible?
Ok, so let me be clear about one thing. In no way, shape or form am I an expert on all things wedding and Covid related. This is purely one person’s perspective on what you can do.
If you’re a bride for the Fall and Winter of 2020, chances are you can sit back and let this ride over While we don’t know what will happen, it’s too early to get nervous for your wedding if it’s six months down the road!
But…if you’re a bride who had plans to marry in April, May, or June, then you know you’re already living the nightmare! As a matter of fact, all April brides have had to reschedule their wedding dates. In compliance with mandates, no non essential business is running. SO that means weddings are put on hold for now.
What about May brides? And June??
Your best bet is to postpone to a date further down the road. I hate saying it, and I hate making anyone feel sad over this piece of news, but until large events are allowed again in our region, postponing is inevitable!
Contact your venue first. See what their rescheduling policies are (trust me, they’re being accommodating and know that they need to be flexible under these circumstances!), and gather a list of dates you can potentially use to as a new date.
Then, talk to close family and friends and see what dates are ideal. You’re gonna want feedback from these people, and those who may need to travel to see if it works for them. And while not everyone may be able to make the new date, those who matter most will likely make your new date a priority!
Now, contact your most essential vendors! You need to ‘pow wow’ with them to try and find a date they have free! Most wedding vendors are happy to make the jump with you and are more than happy to try and work with your dates! It may not always work out, but there’s a good chance that even if they’re not free, they will work with you to refer you out to someone else who can help.
Finally, you need to breathe. Please understand that this is not something you can control. No one expected a Pandemic to happen, and no one foresaw things unfolding as they did! While these are super challenging times, just know that when your actual wedding day does happen, it’s going to be a celebration so much sweeter than you could have ever predicted!
And if I’m there with you, just know that I’m going to be partying right there with you!
