They always say it’s good to participate in styled shoots every so often. For those who may be new to wedding photography, it gives them a chance to shoot a couple and all the details that goes into a wedding or session to give them a portfolio to boost and showcase. For me, it was more of fate just falling into place!
Diana was flying into New York City for a conference with her husband. She had reached out in our photographer’s group to see if anyone wanted to get together to shoot. ‘Sure, why not?’ I thought. Diana has a kick ass style and the thought of some female bonding while shooting together on a random weekday held some appeal to me so I let her know I was in.
I don’t know when the idea hit me, but several other photographers expressed similar interest and somewhere my crazy brain started to formulate an idea…why not put together a styled shoot that would include several photographers and models for an all-day shooting extravaganza!?
Sounds easy, right?
Sure. (Insert a huge eye roll!)
I started my planning in late January and four months later, we actually had our day! Along the way, I was able to recruit more than 10 models, several vendors, and a dozen excited and talented photographers while being shuttled around by my girl Nadine and her husband Big Jim with their shuttle service. We hit up several locations including the New York Public Library, Central Park, and Carl Schurze Park, and we were able to group off into three groups that always had a model(s) to work with while at each location.
Truthfully, it was an amazing day. The weather held out, and while it was chaotic texting models, photographers and vendors throughout the day to make sure that everyone was where they needed to be, it did work out, and we did have an amazing time shooting so many models! From a maternity session, to a couples’ session, to high end bridals and individual portraits, the styled session really was a tour de force for everyone and provided everyone with lots of shots an images that they can use for their own portfolios!
And for yours truly? There is a deep sense of satisfaction in seeing all your hard work come to fruition and makes me think that I may just have to do it all over again one day in the near future!
